Evolution of the Daleks
Apr. 28th, 2007 08:57 pmSome nice directorial touches - shifty Daleks rotating their head domes before gossiping about Sec, Sec in chains, the pigmen looking up inside the elevator at the floor indicator - but too much grandstanding; I think some of DT's confrontation scenes would have worked better sotto voce. There are only so many times the Tenth Doctor can offer himself up for extermination before it strikes the viewer (well, this one) as illogical and undramatic.
If Part One was indebted to some of the archetypal stories of the original series (Talons, Genesis), then Part Two re-ran scenes from The Idiot's Lantern (ascent of pylon) and Love & Monsters (saving a mortally wounded loved one). Nothing in Part Two matched Diagoras' soliloquy looking out over the Manhattan skyline in Part One, and I'm afraid I thought his performance suffered underneath the Sec headpiece.(Perhaps Nick Briggs should have re-dubbed the lines.)
