I loved it. The flash-forward jump cut edits, the acting (Camille Coduri's best work in the series so far), the message of it (people getting together to enjoy a shared interest, however 'outsider' it might be), Marc Warren's sheer screen presence, the one-liners, and the icing on the cake - the music of Jeff Lynne. Welcome to the human race, indeed.

I didn't like the first fifteen minutes or so - I didn't think our sympathy was engaged immediately by the LINDA gang, the self-mocking depiction of the Doctor and Rose's Scooby-esque pursuit of and by the monster in the Woolwich site misfired a bit too; but at the end I was more moved by this than by any episode of Doctor Who this series, at least.

I was in a pretty positive frame of mind right from the start because I'm such a fan of ELO. Watching the BBC4 concert, I plugged the headphones into the telly tonight so I could crank up the volume and sing along to "Mr Blue Sky", "Livin' Thing" etc... (and yes I know all the words, or most of them!)

And it was, indeed, incredibly moving - it's a shame that now he's been so prominent a guest actor, we're unlikely to get Marc Warren back in the series again. And kudos to Dan Zeff, who really impressed with his debut episode. It's exciting to see how confident and imaginative the new directors this season have been in approaching their stories.

I found myself putting Marc Warren at the helm of the TARDIS, if that's what you were thinking! Impressive and authoritative performance by Tennant, though.
