Wonder of Youtube
Oct. 13th, 2007 01:57 amI only have patchy terrestrial reception in the flat, so I'm grateful to kind souls who are posting up "Screenwipe" and the SJA on Youtube. Charlie Brooker's current series is well up to his usual standard - a bracing blend of belligerent sarcasm, thoughtful and thought-provoking critique, and a variety of sick one-liners that usually have me laughing like a drain. And what other show offers the visual pleasure of Victoria Coren being shoved - not nudged, shoved - bodily off screen?
"Eye of the Gorgon" felt more like the Doctor Who stories of my childhood than Doctor Who does these days (not a criticism of the new series, incidentally.) Sarah Jane even seems to be wearing one of the Fourth Doctor's coats. Phyllida Law was so good in this story that I'm hoping Phil Ford gets to write the prequel, Emma Thompson gets cast, and Bea's maiden name turns out to be Beatrice Summerfield.
