All About Maeve
Jun. 29th, 2004 06:44 pmIn between a visit home to give my mother her birthday presents (a "Shrek 2" Donkey and Jeffrey Deaver's "Twisted") I had lunch with Unsworth, and heard some more gossip about the current regime. Sunshine and showers, by the sound of things.
I've finished my first intranet commission, nearly three weeks ahead of the deadline, and now know more about Maeve Binchy's recent career than most. Her cousin Kate reads most of her stories for audio release, and it must be this work that's keeping her in thesping business : her last screen credit seems to be "Father Ted" (along with most of Irish Equity).
Next up will be Paul Temple, which has a fascinating track record of re-makes and re-casting, stretching across three decades. Home entertainment has been provided by "Firefly", and I've been impressed enough to wish that it had made it to a full season worth of episodes. There are a couple of Blake's 7-esque moments (e.g. the line "I was aiming at his head!") but overall this is something distinctive and worthwhile.
