1) The price of Calippo ice lollies has hardly changed in the ten years since I last sold them
2) The walk-in fridge and freezer are the same dimensions - probably the same make - as the ones I used in Port Solent
3) Marlboro Lights are the cigarette of the choice in this locale
4) The technology Waterstone's uses to scan returns is modelled on the system supermarkets use to process markdowns on stock due to go out of date
5) Hardly anyone buys the Express, and those that do use a coupon printed in the previous day's paper to pay for it.

The in-store radio is excellent - Radio 2 daytime playlist staples feature heavily, with the occasional left-field choice (only 6Music or XFM I suppose would play Radiohead's Karma Police at 2 pm on a Tuesday afternoon.)

Tracks I've enjoyed this month have included:

1) The Pierces, Glorious
2) Nerina Pallot, Put Your Hands Up
3) Patrick Wolf, House  (as Ken Bruce noted, not a million miles away from Nick Lowe's "I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass")
4) Noah and the Whale, Tonight's the Kind of Night  (usually gets played at about 9.50 pm I associate it with the imminent end of a shift)
5) Brooke Fraser, Something in the Water
6) Jack Jeremiah, Heart of Stone
7) Sara Bareilles, Uncharted

That's an uplifting set of tracks there, even with the occasional wistfulness.

The Daily Express, on this basis, is surely not long for this world, and must survive largely as a repackaging of material from the more profitable (I think) Daily Star in Mail-lite format.

"Glorious" sent me on to Spotify for the first time since the new "10 hour/5 plays only" rules came in for free users. Three more tracks which definitely fit the uplifting/wistful model:

REM - It Happened Today (lyrics run out halfway through, cue wonderful harmonic yodelling)

Jon Allen - Joanna (Sample lyrics : "Go with me Joanna, go with me in time / Lets get away before we get too old / We'll cut across the border, into unclaimed land / Put your hand in my hand and lets go.")

k d lang - The Water's Edge.

Prolonged exposure to Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" just convinces me that it's the Eurovision entry that lost its way en route to Dusseldorf this year.
